Patented approach secures iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, and PC devices for $3 per user

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – May 21, 2013 – Marble Security, Inc. today announced the release of its new cloud-based mobile security service that proactively protects the mobile perimeter of an enterprise against cyberattacks and data loss before breaches can occur. Marble is available immediately for iOS, Android, Mac OS X, and Windows, and secures all of a user’s devices for only $3 per month. The company targets medium to large enterprises seeking a comprehensive, easy-to-manage, and affordable mobile security service.

Marble’s mobile security is particularly relevant and targeted for companies adopting and attempting to manage multi-platform, bring your own device (BYOD) programs. In a recent Gartner survey, 38 percent of global companies expect to stop supplying mobile devices, including PC’s, to workers by 2016.[1] At the same time, research from the Spiceworks IT community shows dangerously high levels of exposure to eight critical mobile security threats more than 55 percent of IT pros surveyed are defenseless against or even unaware of six of the top mobile security threats, and 68 percent do not yet have a BYOD policy in place.[2]

Maximum protection, minimum investment

Marble provides a secure environment for accessing corporate and public networks and cloud services, protecting user privacy, Web browsing, and company information. The solution uses a unique approach to mobile security that employs patented, secure virtual network services, risk-based access control and policy-based remediation. By integrating real-time security intelligence that learns and adapts to the sophisticated new threats flooding the Internet every day, Marble thwarts attacks on mobile workers and corporate networks before damage is done.

The Marble client application is downloaded onto a device from the Apple App Store, Google Play or an email link. From this isolated mobile environment the user accesses a secure browser and connects to Marble’s own Virtual Private Network. IT administrators then manage a company’s entire mobile risk posture from a centralized dashboard.

Marble’s patented Mobile Perimeter Defense technology (MPD) is the security breakthrough that gives enterprise IT teams unprecedented control to protect users, even if a device is jailbroken, infected with malware, or used to browse malicious websites. The Mobile Perimeter Defense technology learns and adapts by continuously assessing a massive amount of machine data, as well as mobile user and device attributes – its location, installed apps, current network connections. Marble then applies dynamic risk scores to each device that allow IT administrators, or users themselves, to identify threats in real time and instantly remediate them.

Marble protects mobile devices against advanced tactics used by cybercriminals and hostile governments to break into corporate networks and steal data or disrupt service, such as advanced persistent threats, malware, Trojans, zero day attacks, privacy leaking apps, compromised Wi-Fi hotspots, poisoned DNS, and spear phishing.

“Mobile device management (MDM) falls short of securing mobile endpoints, and is expensive and hard to manage,” said Marble Security founder and CTO David Jevans. “Our mobile security approach goes beyond MDM to proactively protect a mobile worker’s endpoints against cyberattacks even if they are infected with malware, something MDM solutions do not do. At $3 per user for all their devices any business can afford it, and Marble is low touch for both users and administrators.” Jevans is also the chairman of the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) and a leading voice in FS-ISAC, the FBI-sponsored cooperative online banking security initiative.

More information about Marble mobile device security apps is available at www.marblesecurity.com or by calling (408) 737-4300.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – May 21, 2013 – New research into eight critical security threats on mobile devices found the majority of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) are either unaware of or defenseless against the threats posed to their networks by mobile devices and BYOD.

The survey shows mobile security remains a significant problem for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). While 89 percent of SME IT pros are supporting remote employees, 68 percent do not have a BYOD policy in place and 74 percent have not yet implemented a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution.

The fact that SMEs are poorly prepared to protect mobile devices is in part attributable to an awareness gap, with many IT pros admitting they are not even aware of these critical threats.

The survey also made it clear that many companies want to address these security gaps immediately; 33 percent of the organizations said they planned to implement an MDM solution in the next six months.

The research was conducted by Spiceworks Voice of IT, the widely used network management and IT research community, and sponsored by Marble Security. The report, called “How to Effectively Secure Your Network Against Mobile Threats,” was based on a survey of 180 IT professionals and looked into SMEs’ vulnerabilities when employees’ personal mobile devices are allowed network access.

“You can’t defend against threats you don’t understand,” said Marble Security CTO and founder David Jevans. “Hackers know mobile devices are the weak point and that is where they are attacking.” Jevans is also chairman of the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), a not-for-profit industry association focused on eliminating the identity theft and frauds that result from the growing problem of phishing, crimeware and email spoofing.

“The reality is that MDM alone is not a mobile security solution. Until now protecting against all of the critical threats required buying and managing multiple solutions, which is complex, heavy to manage, and expensive. That is why we introduced the Marble mobile security service. It rolls up a completely integrated solution that is effective against the eight critical threats while remaining lightweight, light touch and affordable,” said Jevans.

Marble’s new cloud-based mobile security service proactively protects the mobile perimeter of an enterprise against cyberattacks and data loss before breaches can occur.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – February 6, 2013 – Marble Security today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. Patent No. 8,356,105 entitled “Enterprise Device Policy Management” to Marble Security. Filed in 2009 by Dave Jevans, co-founder and CTO of Marble Security, the patent was issued on January 15, 2013.

The patent provides a method for managing the policies and security of portable devices that store data through a third party cloud service. This important innovation allows enterprises, financial institutions, healthcare providers and government agencies to use a third party cloud service to manage the security, encryption and policies of mobile devices without the risk that the cloud service could compromise the devices. For instance, the cloud services of other systems that do not use this technology could be compromised by bugs, hackers, malicious insiders and even hostile government intervention.

“Employees are bringing their own devices to work, and security must be ensured. In the past, companies had to install costly and complex Mobile Device Management (MDM) software in their data centers to securely manage iPhones, iPads, Android devices and PC and Mac laptops,” says Jevans. “Marble Security’s newly issued patent allows a cloud service to securely provide management capabilities to remote devices in such a way that only an enterprise’s administrators can unlock them. It also ensures that the cloud provider cannot introduce any risks to the device or the data, even if the cloud service is compromised.”

“Enterprise Device Policy Management” patent 8,356,105 defines and provides a way to ensure that only the IT administrators of an enterprise can access, modify or unlock a mobile device, even if the service is compromised.

About Marble Security

Marble Security Inc. offers a mobile security cloud service that protects against the ever-changing threats unleashed into enterprises by mobile devices. Simple to use and deploy, the Marble cloud service includes patented, adaptive protection to eliminate risks to corporate data, networks and applications. Criminals, competitors and hostile governments target enterprises and end users with an ever more sophisticated array of attacks. BYOD workers are particularly at risk. Marble secures remote workers’ access to corporate and public networks and cloud services on Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as Macs and Windows PCs, and offers more comprehensive protection than any other solution on the market.

Marble Security changed its name from IronKey in October 2012. The IronKey brand is now wholly owned by Imation Corp., who last year acquired the IronKey™ secure flash drive hardware business.

Securely enables BYOD and cloud services from any device, reducing costs, risks and complexity in today’s extended IT infrastructures

Marble Cloud, formerly IronKey, is introducing Marble Access, a cloud access management solution comprised of Marble App, Marble Network and Marble Cloud management service. Marble Access is now available on iPhones, iPads, Macs, laptops, PCs, Android smartphones and tablets, and any other Windows or iOS endpoints.

Unlike antivirus, firewall and other signature-based solutions that remain vulnerable to zero-day attacks, Marble Access provides an end-to-end hardened environment that is invulnerable to Trojans, man-in-the-middle, man-in-the-browser, malevolent Wi-Fi networks, DNS poisoning and other state-of-the-threat attacks.

Marble Access is a secure multi-layer environment for accessing the cloud on any employee-owned computer that enables companies to reduce IT costs, risk and complexity by securely using BYOD and cloud services in an extended enterprise IT infrastructure. Any user – contractor, remote worker, customer, or supply chain partner – can securely access enterprise provisioned public and private clouds, from anywhere, on any of their own devices.

The Marble Access solution is comprised of these elements:

Marble App. Employees and consultants can easily download and install the Marble App from anywhere in the world. This app is self-configuring, based on policies defined by enterprise on the Marble Cloud management service. The Marble App is hardened and isolated from malware and keystroke loggers, making it the safest way to access cloud services from any device.

Marble Network VPN service. End users can access the Marble Network, an on-the-go VPN service that encrypts all cloud access on any Wi-Fi hotspot in the world. Secure DNS with real-time blacklists prevents users from visiting phishing, malware distribution and other fraudulent websites.

Marble Cloud management service. IT Administrators simply define policies across PC and mobile device platforms for cloud access control, endpoint security, VPN configuration, cloud access whitelists, malware scanning and jailbreak detection on the cloud service. A risk dashboard gives full visibility and control to the IT Admin including employee and consultant use of the system.

Marble Access provides enterprises, banks and government organizations with a complete end-to-end cloud access management solution that is fully isolated from and invulnerable to any endpoint or network threats such as zero-day attacks from Trojans, keyloggers, man-in-the-middle, man-in-the-browser, malevolent Wi-Fi networks and DNS poisoning. Other key benefits include:

Enables bring your own device (BYOD) and secure use of unmanaged employee devices

Protects users even from malware on their own device

Prevents data loss to capitalize on cloud computing

Eliminates endpoint hardware and management costs

Long term partner RynohLive operates a patented financial management and fraud prevention system for the real estate settlement industry that ensures the integrity of financial transactions in any business setting. The company relies on Marble’s end-to-end security to help prevent fraud before it takes place.

“The real estate settlement industry moves more than one trillion dollars per year through escrow, and is under constant threat from fraud and cyber-attack,” said Dick Reass, president and founder of RynohLive. “Our commitment is to provide Absolute Escrow Protection to the settlement industry, and we’ve been offering IronKey to our clients for years as part of that commitment. Now as Marble, the company’s move into mobile and cloud access control can keep our clients on the cutting edge of best practices in our industry, which is very exciting for us.”

The Marble Access platform also enables IT security teams to:

Manage policies in one central location from the Marble Cloud security service

Meet compliance and risk management standards, even on employee and consultant-owned devices

Support all mobile and desktop devices – Mac, PC, Android and iOS

Grant access to internal and external cloud services

Prevent risky user behavior inside Marble Apps using integrated whitelisting and blacklisting and other policy controls

Significantly lower infrastructure management costs and reduce complexity

A New Paradigm for Endpoint and Cloud Security

Criminals, hactivists and malevolent nation-states continue to succeed in their attacks on enterprise, banking and government IT infrastructures for only one reason: an outdated over reliance on detect-and-patch countermeasures like antivirus and firewalls that fail to protect endpoints and network connections.

“Internet and cloud security is fundamentally broken, and you don’t need to look past the daily headlines about hackers’ latest successes to know it,” said Dave Jevans, founder and CTO of Marble. Jevans is also the chairman of the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) and a leading voice in FS-ISAC, the FBI sponsored cooperative banking security initiative. “The Marble platform turns the endpoint and cloud security paradigm on its head. The difference between our approach and everyone else boils down to isolation, an integrated, multi-layer approach that has already proven to be more effective at preventing zero-day attacks than detect and patch,” argues Jevans.

The confluence of a number of changes in the IT landscape has created the clearly evident problems with Internet, network and cloud security. First, the proliferation of BYOD, smart phones, tablets, and the use of cloud and mobile apps have opened many attack vectors for hackers. Second, endpoint protection relies on signature-based technologies like antivirus, which are only effective after a find, patch and update cycle, leaving a period of vulnerability called zero-day. Third, continued use of passwords for user authentication exacerbate the problem, as these are easily stolen by Trojans and other techniques and used to compromise network access. Finally, the incredible increase in the sophistication of hacker tools like SpyEye and Zeus Trojans and their legions of botnets have made in easy for hackers to mount massive attacks and make every day a zero-day.

Marble Access changes the paradigm of the security industry because it starts with the assumption that an endpoint and a network connection are compromised, and must protect the endpoint user anyway. It works by creating hardened endpoint clients that are isolated from Trojans, keyboard loggers, man-in-the-browser, bad apps and other threats on the endpoint. These secure browser clients are then linked using cryptography and strong authentication through a multi-layer security system that includes a trusted network and a cloud-based managed authentication and risk analytic service. This combination provides a complete end-to-end cloud access management solution that is fully isolated from and invulnerable to any endpoint or network threats.

About Marble

Marble Cloud enables companies to reduce IT costs, risk and complexity by securely using BYOD and cloud services in an extended enterprise IT infrastructure. Any user – contractor, remote worker, customer, or supply chain partner – can securely access enterprise provisioned public and private clouds, from anywhere, on any of their own devices using the Marble App, Marble Network and Marble Cloud management service.

Marble Access, the world’s most secure way to surf the web and access private and public cloud services, was developed by the team that created IronKey, the world’s most secure storage and Web surfing products. The use of hard-shelled virtualized and cryptographic containers on any client device linked with Marble’s multilayer platform that includes a trusted network connection and management system distinguish Marble security from any other solution available today. Unlike antivirus, firewall and other signature-based solutions that remain vulnerable to zero-day attacks, Marble provides an end-to-end hardened platform that is invulnerable to Trojans, man-in-the-middle, man-in-the-browser, malevolent Wi-Fi networks, DNS poisoning and other state-of-the-threat attacks. Marble clients provide a consistent user experience across all available endpoints including Android smart phones and tablets, iPads, iPhones, Macs and Windows PCs.

Marble helps enterprises, banks and governments save money by allowing employees to use their own devices, while simultaneously reducing the risks of data breaches, online fraud and humiliation at the hands of criminals, hactivists and malevolent nation-states.
